<< Back to College Advising Naviance is a corporation that provides a suite of online college search, advising, and application resources to secondary schools across the country and around the world. JCHS first purchased Naviance in 2004 and each year the JCHS-specific database of admissions-related information broadens and deepens. Every JCHS student will be assigned an individual, password-protected account in Naviance, accessed from the JCHS College Advising web page. Parents will be strongly encouraged to create their own individual online accounts, linked to their child’s account. Students find the following sections of their accounts to be most useful: My Checklist
a list of major milestones (by grade level), to pass on the way to college/university application, admission, and enrollment My Game Plan
an initial questionnaire intended to draw out significant criteria to be used by the college advisor in recommending prospective colleges/universities College Search
a search engine that students can use to develop their own list of prospective colleges College Lookup
a research database from which students can seek information about specific colleges Visit Schedule
a place to see which college admissions officers are visiting JCHS or have invited JCHS students to attend a Bay Area reception Document Library
a collection of memoranda on different admissions topics (visiting a college campus, standardized testing recommendations, deferring admission to attend a gap-year program, etc.) My Colleges
a list of prospective colleges (and, later, active applications), showing the student’s level of interest in each institution and the college advisor’s prediction of probability of admission to each college/university Scattergrams
a way to visually compare the student’s academic credentials to the credentials of former JCHS students who applied to the same school My Documents
a place where the student can store all of his/her documents (application essays, etc.) related to the college process My Journal
a place where the student can write notes (about college campus visits, questions to ask admissions officers, etc.) related to the college process My Scholarships
a place where the student can track his/her scholarship applications and results
