 Community is part of our name for a reason. Generating a sense of belonging is an essential part of student life at JCHS. Freshmen become part of the fabric of school life before the first day of classes by participating in an overnight camping trip, together with older students, the Freshmen Dean and many teachers.
Outside of school, a four-year sequence of Experiential Journeys explores issues of power, responsibility, and identity at destinations such as New York; a Native American reservation; Birmingham, Alabama; and the Grand Canyon. An all-school Shabbat retreat occurs every fall, followed by smaller retreats in different communities around the Bay Area. Our Experiential Education staff provide students and teachers an opportunity to share a real-world experience.
During the school year, JCHS students participate in over 20 different clubs, from the Literary Magazine to the Jam Band and the Ultimate Frisbee Club to the Social Club, as well as exciting new groups that are created each fall.
From day one at JCHS, students engage in community service and outreach. They then begin identifying meaningful long-term volunteer projects for their junior and senior years.
A common thread of student life at JCHS is the joy of celebrating Jewish traditions and of building a school-community inspired by our rich heritage.
