Our nationally award-winning lunch program features healthy meals for our school community, made fresh daily in our kosher kitchen. Each meal includes a salad bar with one of our rotating hot entrees including sushi, soup and sandwich, burrito/nachos, pasta, Asian-style vegetables and tofu, brunch, vegetable curries, and falafel.
We buy locally grown produce, use biodegradable utensils and compost all waste. All of our food is prepared in-house, including soups and salad dressings.
JCHS is most proud of how the lunch program impacts the school. It allows students to eat healthy food every day, helping them focus and excel in class. It also brings together the entire school community including students, faculty, and staff to connect during mealtime.
The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), a national nonprofit organization promoting healthy diets, named JCHS the grand prize winner of the 2009 Golden Carrot Award
. The award recognizes schools who develop and implement a healthy school lunch program with a range of vegetarian foods.
