"Layered Visions"

An Adaptation on “Side Porch” by Paul Strand

As doors make way, they hath unfurled
A fog within the whitened world,
A portal to another land
With layered visions in its hand.

A place that, save some lonely trees,
Is only barren, with a breeze
That welcomed him to leave his door
Ajar, so he can see it more

A second door holds Door 1 open,
In the house they both keep hope in,
Far away from other lands
With layered visions in their hands.

The boxer never fought a fight,
It kept the other in its sight,
The tree and it went eye to eye
Instead of fighting. There would lie

A gift for one who could come to
The “Side Porch,” one who traveled through
A portal to another land
With layered visions in his hand.

The lock is kept away from white,
Behind the foyer, out of light,
For locks cannot exist beyond
The door, for they’d be swiftly pawned

By anyone they come across
T’was too secure, a social loss
For trust within the other land
With layered visions in its hand.

The silhouettes are in the eyes
Of those who see it: one surprise,
For those who thought there would be none,
A barren wasteland, whole as one

Yet there is life in lands afar,
A better sense of what they are,
From portals to the other lands
To layered visions in their hands.

The outside is an arc not bent
For those who can’t afford their rent,
Forced out of safety, into squalor,
With no dime, no coin, no dollar.

For many reasons this is sourced,
Yet never should a man be forced
Through portals to the other lands
With layered visions in their hands.

Or maybe it’s the end of life,
With budget thin and conflict rife,
So no one wants to take derisions
To these lands of layered visions.
