Emigrating from Russia in 2000, Dr. Grigoryan went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from the University of Tampa in 2007. Upon graduating, he moved to New York City to join a Ph. D. Program in Chemistry at the City University of New York. There he served as a graduate teaching assistant in general and organic chemistry and fell in love with teaching. In the research lab, Dr. Grigoryan worked in the sub-discipline of molecular biophysics, with projects focused on developing drugs from venomous marine snails, high throughput microarray drug screening development, and bio-compatible fluorescent sensor development. Throughout his research career, he continued to nurture his passion for education by teaching college classes, developing a research-based undergraduate course in organic synthesis, and teaching an after school program in genetics through the New York Academy of Sciences. He began teaching at the secondary level at Northside Charter High School in Brooklyn, NY, where he taught aerospace engineering, chemistry and AP Biology. He also taught Chemistry and Physics, and advised a robotics club at Campbell Hall School before joining the faculty at JCHS in 2018.
