The Seminar will use Joseph Cornell style Shadow Boxes to create a tangible execution of design ideas. Joseph Cornell was an American artist who specialized in assemblage and found object art. Each piece was a little shrine. I have provided some examples of his work. There is a play about him called “Hotel Cassiopeia” by Charles Mee.

“Somewhere in the city of New York there are four or five still-unknown objects that belong together. Once together they'll make a work of art. That's Cornell's premise, his metaphysics, and his religion.”--Charles Simic

Begins Tuesday 09/08.
Every Tuesday 4:30-6:00pm.
7 seminars per quarter
The primary focus is drawing from a script to create, plan, and execute a cohesive design.
Disciplines covered: Lighting, Scenic, Sound, Costumes, Props.
Design projects will include creative  design presentations and abstract design building through Cornell boxes. Claudio Silva, JCHS’s new Theatre technical director will lead structured open discussion.
The group will actively develop design concepts for musicals. Time will be split roughly in half between discussing design approaches and a practical application of participant designs.

We would like to have a core group of people dedicated to coming to each seminar to participate in the projects we will all present. Anyone interested in developing skills in: Literary analysis, critical thinking, creative expression, design collaboration, peer feedback. Design development, presentation, execution, evaluation. Anyone who would like to observe is welcome. People willing to engage conversation, take artistic risks, and support to fellow artists.
