Senior Journey: The Rich Music and Culture of New Orleans

On their second full day in NOLA, Seniors explored the city and its rich culture of art and music.
On their second full day in NOLA, Seniors explored the city and its rich culture of art and music.

After a morning session learning about the history of New Orleans music, students roamed the French Quarter, touring the Backstreet Cultural museum and its dazzling displays of second line costumes. Second line parades are a tradition in New Orleans, where participants from local "benevolent clubs" and organizations follow a "main line" in an informal, but lively parade of their own.

Seniors also had time to explore the beautiful 1925 building of the Anshe Sfard Congregation before visiting the Edna Karr High School to attend a rehearsal with their student marching band.
