Sophomore Journey: Last Day in the Wilderness

Michael Fitch, Math & Science Teacher
After another late start, which we needed in order to rest our bodies, we began the morning routine of breakfast burekas (pastries), packing our pastrami or egg salad sandwiches, and then morning tefillah. We were all getting used to setting up well for our adventures, but at the same time noticing this was going to be our last wilderness experience on this trip.

We set out for climbing, and after a drive with great views of the scenery, we arrived at our location at about noon.  A fifteen-minute hike preceded our three-hour climbing experience. The kids were harnessed in and took turns climbing five different routes all afternoon. All of them pushed their own boundaries by doing what they would have described as impossible just a few hours earlier.

On our journey home we reflected on the experience and soaked in more of the beautiful scenery.

After some free time we had a delicious Mediterranean dinner and headed off to tribes to share about our day.   Our evening closed with a campfire "shine your light" show which included s'mores at intermission.

The next day (today!) we got up early and hopped on the bus for one final short hike to our closing ceremony. We shared some quiet time in nature and shared a few big revelations about our journey with each other. We heard a final dvar Torah from Moriah, and then began our bus ride to Vegas singing Tefillat Haderech....

Until next year!
