Junior Journey: Powerful Moments in Tel Aviv

Shayna D., Class of 2018
Newly arrived in Tel Aviv, the Juniors on the Israel Journey met up with alum Leeor Israeli '16, who is now serving in the IDF, and sang the Hatikvah in Independence Hall.
It's been a great first full day in Tel Aviv.

After a nice wake up and breakfast, we gathered in the lobby to split off into Tefillah groups. I participated in a tefillah where we discussed Israel in the media. It was really interesting to discuss different biases in Israeli newspapers and how misrepresented Israel is in American media.

After Tefillah we had the opportunity to hear from Leeor Israeli, who graduated from JCHS last year and now serves in the IDF. We heard all about what the transition was like and how JCHS prepared her for it.

We then got on the bus and went to Independence Hall. We watched a movie and heard the history of the establishment of Israel in the room in which it was actually established. The most powerful moment for me was when we all stood and sang the Hatikvah together. We then walked to the Bialik house where we split into two groups and learned about the poet's life and how he influenced modern Hebrew.

After the tour, we were all super excited to spend some time in Shuk Hacarmel and Nahalat Benyamin. We had a  delicious lunch, bought souvenirs, and just had a great time. We are all ready for some Shabbat Menucha (Shabbat rest).

Shabbat shalom from Tel Aviv!
