Alum Honored in IDF

Corporal Sonya Karchemskiy '11 was one of 121 IDF soldiers honored by the President of Israel at his residence in Jerusalem as part of the Yom Ha'Atzma'ut celebrations.
Mazel tov to Corporal Sonya Karchemskiy '11, who was one of 121 IDF soldiers honored by the President of Israel at his residence in Jerusalem as part of the Yom Ha'Atzma'ut celebrations.

After graduating with a degree in chemistry from Princeton University, Sonya immigrated to Israel and realized her dream of joining the IDF.

Of her JCHS experience, Sonya reflected in 2011: "My most memorable moment was standing on Mount Bental in the Golan Heights on our grade journey to Israel. Seeing Israel for the first time and exploring it with my friends was the most memorable experience, not only of my time in JCHS, but of my lifetime."

Sophie's family was not able to join her in Israel for the ceremony, but surprised her with a message.
