A rich co-curricular, after school theater program has been developed that will allow students to participate in theater and performing arts workshops even while online.
These workshops will offer the opportunity for students to engage with local and national theater professionals to deepen their understanding of a variety of subjects from choreography, to auditioning, to design.
Offered after school by Zoom at least twice a week (45-90 minutes), students can choose to drop in, participate in the design continuum, or experience every workshop as a way to enhance their skills in any subject. The results of these workshops will inspire JCHS’s future productions and allow the students to become a part of the entire creative process. Some workshops will be offered exclusively for JCHS students, some for our community of alumni, faculty, staff and parents, and some will be in collaboration with students from different youth theater programs in the SFBay Area!
Erin Gentry is back by popular demand to teach Theater, Dance and Choreography workshops Tuesdays in November (starting the 9th). Learn original broadway choreography from great musicals, learn about choreographer's different styles. Find the link on the virtual calendar! If you would like more information, email Ms. Ullman.
Join David Mandelbaum of The New Yiddish Rep and Netflix's "Unorthodox," as he discusses translating plays from English to Yiddish and producing them. David will discuss how the Yiddish Language enlivens these classics, and how audiences responded to the translations.
Where would theater in America be without the contribution of Yiddish Theater? From operetta, to satire, to naturalism, the immeasurable depth and scope of influence is profound in our most beloved works onstage. This workshop will focus on the play "God of Vengeance" and the play it inspired, "Indecent."
This workshop will hone the skills students need to sing a full ensemble number while holding harmonies and listening to fellow performers. Students will also learn how to perform as an ensemble and soloist on Zoom.
