The Jewish Community High School of the Bay (JCHS) is pleased to announce the third annual “Fashion with Compassion,” a student≠led charity fashion show that will take place at JCHS, 1835 Ellis Street, San Francisco on March 17, 2019, at 1:30 pm . Tickets (sliding scale $10-$100) are available on EventBrite.

Fashion With Compassion will run about 90 minutes, including a runway show featuring student models and an auction of the clothes donated for the show immediately afterward. The event also includes a boutique marketplace, with vendors donating 20% of their gross sales to the charity effort.

Produced, promoted, and performed entirely by JCHS students, the event is organized by JCHS junior Eliza Aiken, under the auspices of the national Fashion with Compassion, a Los Angeles-based organization that has assisted other high schools with similar shows.

In 2015, Aiken’s older sister, Eliana Aiken ’17, met Fashion with Compassion founder Celine Yousefzadeh through the JCHS Community Speaker series. In 2008, Yousefzadeh and a fellow sophomore Lexie Sokolow at Milken Community High School in Los Angeles created the first “Fashion with Compassion.” Eliana organized the first Fashion With Compassion event at JCHS in 2017, and Eliza organized both last year’s and this year’s show.

Fashion With Compassion not only creates an opportunity for a fun, fashion-forward fundraiser, it is also a multi-faceted project that empowers students to believe in themselves and see themselves as agents of change. Fashion With Compassion provides a unique platform to teach students about the professional world, build bridges between the school and the local community, and raise money for charities around the world.

Last year’s Fashion with Compassion event benefited Save A Child’s Heart Foundation, raising over $5,000 for a non-profit which aids children in developing nations that need life-saving heart surgery. This year, this remarkable charity fashion show will benefit IsraAID. Corporate partners for JCHS’ Fashion With Compassion includes many powerhouse brands such as:

● Tommy Hilfiger
● Steve Madden
● Kate Spade
● Rebecca Minkoff
● Adidas
● Urban Outfitters
● SoulCycle
● Lululemon
● Vilebrequin
● Superga
● Kiehl's
● Jigsaw London
● Aveda
● Timberland
● PINK
“Fashion with Compassion empowers young people to support charities by using their interest in fashion and marketing to organize fundraising events for a charity they choose. As a high school student who had never organized a fundraiser, I had the opportunity, through Fashion with Compassion to learn about corporate structures and interact with company representatives in a professional capacity,” says Eliana Aiken. “Through Fashion with Compassion, I hope to inspire my fellow students to find something they love and channel their passion and motivation to effect positive change in the world.”
