9th grade Seminar

Supporting Students from Day One

Starting high school is exciting—and a little overwhelming. FreshSem helps every ninth-grade student build the confidence, skills, and relationships they need to thrive from the very beginning of their JCHS journey.

Offered as a regularly scheduled class, FreshSem is taught by members of the Student Support team who work together to help students navigate academics, build meaningful friendships, develop healthy habits, and feel connected to the JCHS community. More than a class, FreshSem ensures every student is known, supported, and encouraged to grow into their best self.

Dean Time

Students meet regularly with the Dean of Students for Ninth & Tenth Grades for one-on-one check-ins, providing a trusted space to discuss academic progress, personal goals, and any challenges along the way.

FreshSem Focus Areas

Health & Wellness

Led by the School Counselor, students explore topics including stress management, healthy relationships, emotional wellness, sleep, technology use, mental health, and other life skills that support overall well-being.

Study Skills

Students strengthen organization, time management, note-taking, research, and academic integrity while building learning strategies that support success throughout high school.
