At JCHS, Service Learning isn't just about volunteering—it's about building relationships, understanding communities, and creating meaningful change.
Over four years, students develop the knowledge, empathy, and practical skills to engage thoughtfully with the world around them. Through service experiences, guided reflection, workshops, and school-wide learning, they deepen their understanding of social justice while discovering how they can make a lasting impact.

GRADE 9
Discover Your Community
Students begin by exploring San Francisco's Western Addition and Fillmore neighborhoods, learning about their history, strengths, and the organizations working to support local residents.
Through walking tours, conversations with community changemakers, and hands-on service, students begin developing meaningful relationships while exploring different approaches to social change.
GRADES 10 & 11
Deepen Your Impact
Students commit to ongoing service with a community organization of their choice or one of JCHS's community partners.
Working alongside advisors, students select opportunities that reflect their interests while building meaningful relationships, developing professional skills, and gaining a deeper understanding of the issues they care about.
Requirement: 52 hours of Service Learning
GRADE 12
Lead with Purpose
Many seniors integrate Service Learning into their Keystone Projects, connecting years of learning with meaningful action.
The program culminates in a Senior Journey that encourages students to explore what it means to build Tzedek—justice-oriented relationships—with the communities and places they encounter.
