Rising 10th and 11th Graders,

A quick reminder that students are expected to complete 52 hours of community service during 10th and 11th grade—ideally 26 hours per year.

Good news: Any service you do over the summer can count toward your total requirement!
To make sure you get credit for your work, don’t forget to submit a Service Learning Tracking Form each time you volunteer.

Looking for ideas on how to serve your community?
There are many ways to get involved, including:

  • Advocacy: Get involved in a cause you care about! Write letters to lawmakers, make phone calls, participate in training/education, circulate a petition, educate others, etc.
  • Direct Service: Clean up a beach or park, help stock a food pantry, deliver meals to unhoused community members, walk or play with shelter animals, etc.
  • Community Support: Make “friendship phone calls” to elders, make gifts or cards for hospital patients, etc.
  • Education: Tutor/mentor younger students, participate in a Bystander Training, lead (virtual) after-school activities, run a social media campaign, create an art installation about homelessness, etc.
  • Fundraising: Organize your community to raise money for a cause, hold a sale (bake sale, art sale, etc) and donate proceeds to charity, etc.

If you have any questions about your summer service, feel free to reach out to Ms. Adi Alouf at aalouf@jchsofthebay.org. Please note that as we are now on summer break, Ms. Alouf is checking her email periodically, so her response time may be a bit delayed.
