Affording JCHS

JCHS offers a flexible tuition program designed to help keep a JCHS education accessible to families from a variety of economic backgrounds.
As a community school, it is a priority for JCHS to make this quality education as accessible as possible for the widest range of mission-appropriate students. We consider every family's individual situation carefully. While each family is asked to contribute financially toward their student's education, we encourage anyone sincerely interested in attending JCHS to apply to our Flexible Tuition Program, even if you have concerns about your family's capacity to afford full tuition.

Our admissions process operates separately from decisions about the Flexible Tuition program. Consequently, and because our resources are limited, some applicants may be admitted to JCHS, but placed on our Flexible Tuition program waitlist.

To learn more about the Flexible Tuition Program at JCHS, please join us at our Flexible Tuition workshop with our Director of Finance. This workshop is for any family applying to JCHS, and you may register by contacting the Admissions Office.

Frequently Asked Questions:

List of 9 frequently asked questions.

  • What is the full tuition and what are the fees for the 2020-21year?

For the 2020-2021 academic year, the tuition is $49,725

In addition, there is a Shabbaton fee of $150 and Parent Association dues of $72. There are no fees for costs such as athletic uniforms, textbooks, and school-provided equipment.

Families may opt into our kosher lunch program, and our transportation program, and may also wish to factor in costs such as experiential education Journeys, and specialized tutoring. Each student is required to bring their own laptop to JCHS.
  • How do I make tuition payments?

JCHS offers three options for tuirion payment plans:

Annual payment: Tuition can be paid in full at the time of enrollment with no processing fee.

Two semi-annual payments: Tuition can be paid in two installments through the FACTS service.
This option requires a one-time $10 setup fee that is added to your total plan payment. We require a 10% deposit to be paid at the time of enrollment. Then one payment is due in July, with a second payment due in January.

Monthly payments: Tuition may be paid in ten monthly installments debited from checking/savings through FACTS. This option requires a one-time $45 setup fee that is added to your total plan payment. We require a 10% deposit to be paid at the time of enrollment. Then monthly payments begin in July.
  • Will applying for flexible tuition affect my child’s chances of being admitted to JCHS?

No.  An application for flexible tuition does not affect a student’s admission selection. The flexible tuition committee operates separately from the admissions office. Our selection of students is a "need-blind" process.
  • Are all students who are admitted also offered flexible tuition if they qualify?

We encourage all families who feel they may qualify for our Flexible Tuition program to apply. Because financial aid decisions are made independently of the admissions process, and because our resources are limited, some students may be accepted for admission, but placed on a waitlist for flexible tuition.
  • When will decisions about flexible tuition be made?

Notice of flexible tuition decisions will accompany letters of acceptance to JCHS, which will be mailed on Thursday, March 19, 2020 and sent electronically on Friday, March 20, 2020.
  • Do we have to re-apply for flexible tuition every year?

Yes. Flexible tuition is based on your family's financial need.  We ask that you reapply  each year so that we can verify your current needs.
  • Is there a maximum income level that will disqualify me from receiving flexible tuition?

No.  JCHS does not have an income limit for flexible tuition since every family’s situation is different. We evaluate the need of each family based on their application and make our decisions accordingly.
  • How are flexible tuition applications handled in situations where parents are separated, divorced, remarried, or cohabitants?

JCHS considers all available sources of financial support when making flexible tuition decisions. Both the custodial and non-custodial parents are required to complete a flexible tuition application. The award process cannot be completed without full information from both parents.
  • I work for myself and my income can vary each year. Does this impact my application?

Decisions for 2020-2021 will be based on 2018 income. You may submit a letter explaining your specific extenuating circumstances to the JCHS flexible tuition committee if you feel that you will be experiencing changes in your income during the 2020-2021 school year that are not reflected in your 2018 and 2019 income as reported in the Parent Financial Statement (PFS) and as verified by your 2018 and 2019 tax returns.
