9th grade journey is off to a great start! We arrived to Brandeis Bardin a campus ahead of schedule yesterday and in great spirits. We concluded the evening with a night hike and activities before turning in for the night. After a first day with an array of electives-- everything from cooking to horse back riding, art to archery, and even mountain biking--the freshman played a game of capture the flag led by their class rashim.
Tuesday morning the students hit the ropes course and used ingenuity and determination to navigate through a variety of team building activities. Students learned how to trust one another, worked together to find a solution to a team challenge, and most importantly were encouraged to try something new and step outside of their comfort zones. We explored the value and significance of story telling and broke off into smaller groups to share our own personal stories. This activity enforced community engagement through peer support and reflection and was a powerful way to conclude the week's activities. On our last day, we headed off into LA to spend some time in Santa Monica, visit the museum of tolerance and end our day celebrating the Jewish community that is thriving today in Pico Robertson.
The Jewish Community High School of the Bay (JCHS) is a unique college preparatory high school committed to integrating deep learning, universal wisdom, and Jewish values. We empower each student to embrace her or his Jewish identity, generate empathy and compassion, delight in lifelong education, and improve the world.
