We are honored to host Del Seymour, known as the “Mayor of the Tenderloin ”, to share his experiences as someone who went from deep struggle to inspiring leadership in the community. In the spirit of Sukkot, and its focus on hospitality to guests (hakhnasat orekhim), Del will share what true hospitality means to him, particularly for those who lack permanent shelter.
Del works closely with Glide Memorial Church, St. Antony’s, and Swords to Plowshares. He is also co-chair of San Francisco’s Local Homeless Coordinating Board. Del founded Tenderloin Walking Tours in order to “present the Tenderloin in a favorable setting.” In 2015, he founded Code Tenderloin to address the economic inequality he saw in his beloved neighborhood.
