Health and Safety

At JCHS, the safety and well-being of our learning community is the highest priority. We have been grateful to be able to lean into the strength of this school community and our care for each other as the world has navigated the unprecedented circumstances wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic and shelter-in place orders.
During a COVID-19-impacted year, in order to mitigate health risks and still allow for in-person learning, the protocols around everything from who is in the building, to how our classes are taught will depend on many factors. Contributing to the decision will be: specific guidance from health officials at the county and state level, as well as reliance on the JCHS mission and values to ensure that our planning, decision-making, and implementation centers upon the values and needs of the school community—including considerations related to diversity, equity, access, and inclusion.

Vigorous Social Distancing Protocols

In compliance with guidance released by the San Francisco Department of Public Health, JCHS will implement the following protocols for all in-person interactions on our campus.

Physical Distancing
Maintain 6 feet of physical distance between individuals on campus. Number of students inhabiting indoor spaces (classrooms, labs, studios, etc.) will be reduced to meet this requirement.

Masks are Mandatory
All students and adults must wear masks covering both the nose and mouth at all times (except when eating). This applies even when outdoors. There will be specific, limited activities or times when face masks can be temporarily removed. Students must bring their own mask daily. JCHS will supply disposable masks to students if needed.

Handwashing
There will be hand sanitizer dispensers outside most classrooms and building entry points. Signage encouraging mask usage and hand hygiene will be placed throughout the school.

Pre-Arrival Screening and
Temperature Checks

As part of each student’s pre-arrival screening, families will be expected to take each student’s temperature, every day. Any fever above 100.4 (if taken at home, or 100 if taken at school) will require the student to stay (return) home. There will be specific protocols for how long a student will have to stay at home.

Travel Outside Bay Area

Consistent with DPH guidance, JCHS asks all students who travel outside the San Francisco Bay Area to stay at home for 14 days before coming to school.

COVID-19 Testing

Consistent with DPH guidance, JCHS asks students and their household members with symptoms of COVID-19 to get tested promptly, before they can spread infection to others at JCHS.
