Michael Holper

Position: Math Teacher
Categories: All Staff, Math and Science

Georgetown University – BS
Stanford University – MA

Michael Holper loves the maths. He has taught math in San Francisco for the past several years and before that worked as a college counselor in Nanjing, China. He developed a strong love of math during his master’s program at Stanford, exploring the many aspects of problem-solving through growth mindset, group work, and student-centered explanation. Prior to working in China, he attended Georgetown University where he studied economics and Chinese, and taught recent Chinese immigrants for three years.

If you would like a logic puzzle to chew on, please don’t hesitate to reach out to him. He dreams for his students to grasp the relevance of math in the myriad of challenges and opportunities they face. In his own life, he loves translating Imperial and SI units while baking, (weight is a better measure than volume), counting the leaves on the trees as he walks through the forest, and optimizing time usage by listening to audio books while trying to get 10,000 steps a day. Raised by a Catholic and a Jew, he is drawn to JCHS’ accepting but grounded approach to Judaism.
